Departures, an American Express publication founded in 1984, rebranded with Giant Spoon as a digital-first media brand. Embracing a post-pandemic-oriented definition of luxury — one that focused on matter over means — the new Departures, which launched in late 2021, was designed to highlight exceptional places, people, and things through the highest quality imagery and writing.

Under Editor in Chief Skye Parrott and Managing Editor Erin Dixon, branded content was held to the same high standards as editorial. Far from the copy-and-paste-a-press-release approach adopted by so many other media brands, we looked for ways to provide fresh insight into a partner, performing our own in-depth research, and when possible, producing custom visuals. As Associate Creative Director, I developed a library of assets spanning creative concepts in pitch decks, print pages, special-edition newsletters, text-only callouts, and more for a diverse set of partners from travel, tourism, and cruise to fashion, watches, auto, and spirits. By sharing a visual team with editorial, our work always complemented the beautiful Departures world. Here’s a peek.
